Silver Sunday

Sunday 4 October, 10am–3pm Venue: The Ridings Centre, Wakefield

Wakefield & District u3a will be taking part in Age UK’s Silver Sunday, a celebration of later life and community. The event brings together organisations from across the district who support wellbeing, learning, social connection and active living.

If you’re curious about u3a, thinking about joining, or simply want to find out what we offer, this is a friendly opportunity to meet us and have a chat.

What to expect

Silver Sunday is a showcase event, designed for people who may not yet know what u3a is about. At our table you’ll be able to:

• talk to volunteers about how u3a works
• discover the wide range of groups and activities we run
• pick up information about joining
• try a light, fun word‑search puzzle using the names of our activity groups

The puzzle is part of Age UK’s Five Ways to Wellbeing Challenge, encouraging visitors to explore the event, connect with organisations and discover something new.

There will also be entertainment around midday and a variety of other stalls to visit throughout the day.

Who is it for?

This event is aimed at newcomers, people who are exploring options for staying active, learning new things and meeting others in later life. You don’t need to book, and you don’t need to be a member — just drop in and say hello.

Existing members are welcome to call in, but Silver Sunday is primarily a public‑facing recruitment and information event.

Why visit our stall?

Many people join u3a because they want:

• friendly social contact
• new interests and activities
• a sense of purpose and routine
• opportunities to learn and share skills

Silver Sunday is a relaxed way to find out whether u3a might be right for you. We’ll be happy to answer questions and help you get started.
