Membership Day – Monday 14 September (10am–12 noon)
Venue: Brook House, 221 Barnsley Road, Wakefield WF1 5NU
Our Membership Day is for existing members to renew, and new joiners to come along between 10am and 12 noon to complete their membership. Once you’ve joined, you can take part in any of our groups across Wakefield and Pontefract.
This is a very important day in our diary!

Our Open Day at Carleton Grange was a great success, with strong interest from Pontefract residents and enough sign‑ups to begin planning four new Groups for September.

Coffee Morning
Wakefield u3a holds a very popular Coffee Morning at Brook House Club on the third Friday of every month. Coffee and biscuits are served at 10am, with plenty of time to meet, greet, and chat before our monthly guest speaker takes to the stage.
All members are welcome. There is a £2 charge to cover room hire and refreshments.
Non‑members who are interested in joining may also attend free of charge, and will have the opportunity to join Wakefield u3a at the event.

Rotary Crocus Planting – October 2026 (Community Event)
u3a member Stephen Flicker says:
As a way of raising awareness of the End Polio campaign, Rotary International will be planting crocus corms around the country. My club, The Rotary Club of Normanton, have funded 8,000 crocus corms to be planted around Normanton, Sharlston, Featherstone, Castleford, Crofton and Walton.
Recent events
Twelve members of Wakefield U3A played walking cricket at the U3A Festival in York on 3rd July - on a warm day they played and won games against Rotherham & Todmorden before beating Sandbach in the Final by one run!
Fish and Chips Lunch - June 2026
Our annual fish & chip lunch at Queens Drive Fish Restaurant in Ossett.
A lovely social afternoon at this restaurant, with great food and even better company. Our photographer captured everyone who attended (Thanks Jill!) — here’s a selection from the day.
May 2026 - two u3a Art Groups and our Creative Writing Group worked with the Friends of Waterton's Wall to create an exhibition celebrating 200 years since the completion of Waterton's famous wall around the World's first nature reserve.

Online Events
u3a Online runs a wide range of talks, workshops and learning sessions throughout the year. These events are delivered nationally and are open to all u3a members. The programme changes regularly and includes topics such as technology, arts, science, wellbeing, history and more.
Explore and book national online events
Interest Groups Online (IGO)
Interest Groups Online is the national u3a’s online community offering over 120 member‑led groups. Sessions cover a huge variety of interests — from music appreciation and creative writing to specialist hobbies and practical skills. Members can join groups, meet new people and explore new interests from home.
YAHR (Yorkshire and Humberside Region) hold a very popular Summer School at the Hawkhills, Easingwold.
This is a wonderful venue with great food and good company!
