Two Guitar Groups and a Harmonica Group are looking for singers!
If possible I would like to ask if there is any interest from any vocalists, Male
or Female in helping out the Guitar and Harmonica Groups. We need some
help in building up our presentation of our songs. We basically play popular
songs.
I run two u3a Groups for Guitar and another for Harmonica.
At the start of this year I asked my Groups what they wanted to achieve in the coming sessions.
The answer was more or less unanimous:
They wanted to be able to Sing along with their instruments and begin to
perform. No one had actually played in public before. I am not a natural
singer. So my plan is to see if we can recruit singers who might be interested
in performing with the Groups as their backing Band.
From my experience doing the same thing for Barnsley U3A I know it provides
a whole new drive to the musicians and the vocalists. The first step is to
provide the Singers with some words and the Guitarists with the music. I
could also see it being linked to the Ukelele groups. In Barnsley it led to
founding a whole new Group.
Quite what will happen when word of the
opportunity gets out in Wakefield is anyone’s guess. Oh, one thing though –
this is not in competition with Sing and Strum or sing along groups. Any
Group must be prepared to rehearse to a higher level.
